Our Purpose and Vision

We believe that access to literature and creative expression is a right, not a luxury. Our work is rooted in the belief that stories have the power to shape identity, build community, and change futures. We support young writers, elevate Black voices, and expand access to books and storytelling spaces—making room for new generations to read, write, and be heard.

  • We create space for literature to live and breathe in community—through author talks, readings, plays, and public discussions. These events bring people together around ideas, identity, and imagination. By celebrating writers and their words, we help foster a deeper connection to the power of storytelling.

  • Our after-school and summer programs give under-resourced youth a space to explore writing as a form of creativity, confidence, and connection. These workshops are designed to support self-expression while building literacy skills. Through mentorship and structure, young writers learn to see their voices as valuable and their stories as worth telling.

  • We expand access to physical books in our community—connecting children, families, and elders with stories that reflect their lives and histories. Whether it’s helping build a child’s first home library or supporting shared reading in schools and community centers, our goal is to strengthen literacy and cultural connection through books that belong on every shelf.

  • We work with publishers, educators, and local partners to get books and learning materials directly to communities that need them most. Through collaboration, we aim to remove barriers to access and create lasting networks that support literacy and educational equity on the ground.

To maximize our impact on current efforts, we may seek to collaborate with other non-profit organizations that fall under the 501(c)(3) section of the Internal Revenue Code and are operated exclusively for educational and charitable purposes.

At times, per the discretion of the board of directors, we may provide internships or volunteer opportunities, offering involvement in said activities and programs in order to impact change.
